This is What is Wrong with AOL…

…amazing to see these things are also underlying a lot of Yahoo’s problems:

I have met Brad Garlinghouse several times in my antispam/email work and he is a good guy…someone you would want to work for. Maybe he is making a power move, but I think this is a weird way to do it. Instead, I think he is frustrated and just being very honest about what is wrong over there, perhaps in a last ditch effort to change the organization (before he joins Google :-).

I see many of the same things wrong with AOL. Not everything is identical, but boy do the similarities outweigh the differences. How would you change AOL if you were in charge?

Long Weekend sans kids

There is something about dropping the kids off at Grandmother and Pop Pop’s house that makes you feel like you are back in college. Its likely not that complicated a feeling if you think about it for a few seconds. Rylan (my wife) and I were fortunate enough to get this opportunity last weekend.

We traveled up to Wilmington, DE and stayed at the Hotel Dupont. From there, we drove around the Brandywine River Valley which starts just a few miles from downtown Wilmington and continues into Pennsylvania. If you have never visited, its basically a lot of rolling hills, farms, horses, and some nice old houses. Its really worth a trip for a long weekend if you are within 2 hours of the area, which by my estimates is likely 30% of the population of the USA!

Beginner I Ballet

My daughter, Anna, wanted to take Ballet this year so I signed her up at the Conservatory Ballet in Reston, a town in Fairfax, Virginia in the Washington DC area. I got a chance to take her to class today and watch. What fun :-)

The teacher even let me snap a few pictures of the class. Below is one of the girls in the class (not Anna).
